  3. INSTALL PROGRAM
  4. To perform a Large Install you must have 15 megabytes of hard disk
  5. space free.
  6. For a Small Install you must have 11 megabytes of hard disk space
  7. free.
  8.  
  9. CONFIG.SYS REQUIREMENTS
  10. You must ensure that the following line exists in your config.sys
  11. file, with the number at least 30.
  12.  
  13. FILES=30

  15. PCQUIK DISK CACHE SOFTWARE
  16. Users of the above software will need to insert into their
  17. PCQUIK.INI file the following line:
  18.  
  19.     LendAmount=0
  20.  
  21. GAME PLAY CHANGES
  22. Since the Manual and the Technical Supplement were written we have
  23. added a number of enhancements and changes to Fields of Glory.
  24.  
  25. Army Changes
  26. To add more national flavour to each army the unit names have been
  27. translated into their national languages.  This did, however,
  28. create an inconsistency in the French army where corps numbers are
  29. displayed as Roman Numerals rather than by French notations such
  30. as 2éme Corps.
  31.  
  32. Command Changes
  33. As well as the "Rejoin Command" order (see the Technical
  34. Supplement), we have added an order to allow commanders to bring
  35. all their detached units back under their direct command. When a 
  36. "Reattach Units" is given by a commander all previously detached
  37. units will return to the direct control of the commander and will
  38. manoeuvre back to his position. The commander will then reorganise
  39. his units, before continuing with his Operational Order.

  41. Routing Brigades
  42. Brigades that have routed may rally and return to their commander
  43. for further orders. A message is displayed saying that the brigade
  44. has rejoined its commander. The next time their commander is
  45. ordered they will absorb the returned brigade as for Reattach
  46. Units. The brigade may also be ordered independently by the player.

  48. Army and Wing Commanders
  49. These commanders may be moved by the player around the battlefield
  50. in order to inspire their troops. To move an Army or Wing Commander
  51. open his order box then click on the desired destination point.

  53. Occupying Buildings
  54. Infantry can be ordered to occupy buildings by selecting a building
  55. as their destination point. Once the infantry reach the destination
  56. they will enter the building and gain the benefits of the cover of
  57. the building from enemy fire and assaults.

  59. Ending a Game
  60. The game will automatically finish when 70% of either side have
  61. been killed or permanently routed, or at 21:30, whichever occurs
  62. first.

  64. Reviewing the Game
  65. You can review the current level of victory by pressing the R key.
  66.  
  67. Delayed Orders
  68. Orders are always passed from the army commander to his subordinate
  69. commanders and then to the unit involved. At Guard difficulty level
  70. the delivery of an order is delayed by the time it takes for an
  71. order to travel down the command structure. This means that it will
  72. take a while for a unit to respond to your direct orders. Be
  73. patient, the unit will respond when the order reaches it. Until
  74. then the unit's order box will display its previous order.

  76. Issuing Lots of Orders
  77. On slower machines when you issue lots of orders at the start of
  78. the large battles (Waterloo and Ligny), the game will slow down as
  79. the game's AI transmits the orders. To avoid this problem issue
  80. your initial orders to your Corps commanders then issue more direct
  81. orders to divisions and brigades as they move into contact with the
  82. enemy. Alternatively, issue your initial orders then wait until
  83. they have been implemented before giving any further ones.

  85. CHANGES FROM THE FRENCH MANUAL 
  86. The translations of orders have been changed as follows:
  87.     Mixte formation has become Ordre mixte.
  88.     Eparpillée has become En Tirailleur.
